People with fibromyalgia experience serious emotional and mood problems, often going through a state of depression and anxiety, which are common symptoms of fibromyalgia. They are up to three times as likely to experience depression as people without fibromyalgia.

- In severe cases, depression combined with chronic pain can lead to thoughts of death or suicide.

Although there is no cure, the symptoms of fibromyalgia and depression can be dealt with successfully.
- Diet plays a significant role in mood management. Since blood sugar influences mood, you should try to keep it balanced by looking at your food. Eating refined sugar and caffeine may raise your mood temporarily, but it will lead to a significant decrease in blood sugar and mood soon after. The same can be said about alcohol.
- Mood is also related to magnesium. Therefore, it can be helpful to ensure that you get enough magnesium in your diet, or take a magnesium supplement.
- Herbal remedies are often more effective when taken with homemade remedies, as it helps to have a positive effect on your body. It is believed that hypericum works by affecting brain neurotransmitters.
- Your doctor will likely suggest some form of speech-language pathology or cognitive behavioural therapy that affects the way you perceive and respond to a situation. Those kinds of therapies are quite effective. Prescribed medications like antidepressants are generally the last resort.
